Cultural safety
Karabena Consulting conducts cultural safety audits, reviews and frameworks for hospitals, health services, government departments, specialist medical colleges, and the housing and transport sectors, examining policy and practice alongside the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who use the service.
Cultural safety is determined by the people receiving care, and our methodology follows from that position, so we gather the experiences of patients, clients, families and staff, we test them against the organisation's own policies, governance and data, and we set out what we have found and what would need to change.
Where organisations want to hear from community continuously, we design the feedback mechanisms that make this possible, including the Say it Safe platform and the Safely Talk Back mechanism co-designed with community in the Australian Capital Territory.
The work below shows where we have done it.
The ACT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety feedback mechanism, co-designed and piloted with community and supported by a digital app, so that feedback leads to real change in practice.
